In a joint effort by the Washington State Department of Agriculture, the Washington Department of Ecology, and the U.S. Geological Survey, the Environmental Protection Agency's Pesticide Root Zone Model and a Geographic Information System were used to develop and test a method for screening and mapping the susceptibility of ground water in agricultural areas to pesticide contamination. Atrazine is a popular corn herbicide that is used to control weeds in corn fields and has been used in Wisconsin for over 25 years.

Atrazine may have entered Wisconsin's groundwater as a result of its use on farm fields. The presented methodology is both for local and regional assessments. It is simple, does not need implication of high qualification specialists and can be applied to test the groundwater quality.

The book is useful for undergraduate, graduate, master, and PhD students as well as water quality specialists, ecologists and geology professionals. The leaching model applied in this report provides an estimate of the vulnerability of the near-surface aquifer in Kent County to contamination by atrazine. The vulnerability estimate is related to water-quality criteria developed by the USEPA to help assess potential risks from atrazine .Soil Survey of Kent County, Michigan () File 2 of 2 Author: USDA Subject: Soil Keywords: Soil Survey Kent County Michigan Created Date: 1/26/ AM.C.
